Grade 6 Homeroom, ELA (English, Spelling/Vocabulary, Reading), Religion and Math
Grade 5 ELA (English, Spelling/Vocabulary, Reading)
I have enjoyed teaching 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grades at Our Lady of Victory School since 1991. This is the sixth year I am teaching 6th grade at OLV. For one year, I taught in public school Grades 6 and 8 ELA, and actually began my teaching career in Germany for three years.
I am American of Lithuanian descent and my father, Antanas Vaičiulaitis, is known as a major writer and literary figure in Lithuania. My sisters and I manage projects and programs in Lithuania and worldwide related to his work. For example, every two years an award is given in my father's name for the best short story. We are involved in book releases, the educational systems, all the way up to university level, museums, and historical preservation of my father's birthplace. Every year young and old gather there for a cultural literary arts program where winners are recognized and awarded for their talents. For many years, I was involved in various Lithuanian community organizations including teaching or managing a Lithuanian Saturday School in the Baltimore Washington area. I belong to the National Basilica of St. Alphonsus parish in Baltimore and attend the 8:30 Lithuanian Mass.
I am married, have three grown daughters who all attended Our Lady of Victory School, leading successful professional lives, 2 dogs, a cat, and 4 birds!
The best way to reach me is by e-mail. I will respond back by e-mail or phone call. For conferences, the best time for me is before school between 7:45-8:00. Please know that I am at your service.
God bless you and your family,
Joana Buivys
